Word of Life Ministries evolved from the inspiration of God and Dr. Jerry L. Maynard's obedience to begin a teaching ministry in the community of Clarksville. Dr. Maynard under an equipping anointing is often used by God in the starting up of new works.

On April 23, 1996 Word of Life Ministries held its first Tuesday Night Bible Study at the Holiday Inn Express, Exit 11. Minister Cecelia Grimsley and a host of associate ministers, which included our pastor, Elder John C. Mathis, were instrumental in the initial upstart of the Clarksville ministry and they continued to work diligently in the vineyard to ensure that this vision became fruitful.

As a result of growth and a desire for those individuals living within the Clarksville city limits to have easier access to our worship experience, Word of Life Ministries relocated to the Riverview Inn June 11, 1996. At this time, Dr. Maynard saw the need to add an afternoon Sunday Worship service to the existing Tuesday Night Bible study.

Although Pastor Mathis was already serving and operating in the capacity of a pastor full-time, he was obedient to the call of God and Dr. Jerry L. Maynard recommended Elder John C. Mathis be appointed to the pastorate of Word of Life Ministries and on July 25, 1999 Bishop Gilbert Earl Patterson, Jurisdictional Prelate, appointed Elder Mathis to serve as the Pastor of Word of Life Ministries. On Resurrection Sunday (April 23, 2000), we officially moved into our new and current church edifice located a 1236 Vine Street, formerly the home of The First Missionary Baptist Church, Pastor Robert J. Harris.

Word of Life Ministries continues to be an integral part of the Clarksville community our involvement includes: Bound to Be Free (Jail Ministry), Nursing Home Ministry, S.W.A.T. Pastor Mathis through the leading and inspiration of the Holy Spirit is using television and internet mediums as a vehicle to release God's revelation into the earth. Word of Life Ministry has been featured on many television and radio programs including 1550 AM "The Light", Family Net Television Network, Charter Cable Channel 27. We are now on every Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday at 6:00 p.m., on Charter Channel 10, Clarksville, TN. Pastor Mathis and the Word of Life Family members and friends celebrated their ground breaking ceremony on August 12th, 2007, which brings the church closer towards fulfilling the vision of building a new 3.5 million dollar edifice, to the glory of God our Father. Reverend Emeritus Jerry G. Jerkins, was the Guest Speaker for Word of Life (W.O.L.) Mortgage Burning Celebration held during our regular worship service on September 28, 2008. The architectural plans have been completed and approved by the Clarksville-Montgomery County Planning Commission and through the inspiration of the Holy Spirit Pastor Mathis motto is: "If God gives us enough days and enough bricks we will build the building," as we await final banking approval.
